Enugu Police restate ban on night operation for keke, mini-bus

The police in Enugu State on Friday restated ban on operations of mini buses and tricycles, beyond 9pm and before 6am within the Enugu metropolis.

In a statement issued by the state Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Daniel Ndukwe, the police warned operators of mini buses and tricycles, that the Order of the State Government, restricting the operational time of mini buses and tricycles in Enugu metropolis from 6am to 9pm daily, is still in force and shall be enforced to the letter.

This, Ndukwe said, was in view of the flagrant violation of the Order by some of the operators and the reported cases of criminal activities perpetrated with the aid of mini buses and tricycles in the city and its environ.

Consequently, the Commissioner of Police, Ahmed Ammani, directed Area Commanders, Divisional Police Officers (DPOs) and Tactical/Operational Commanders of the Command to redouble their efforts and ensure the strict enforcement of the order in a professional manner.

The CP ordered them to ensure that violators are arrested, their mini buses or tricycles impounded and that they are prosecuted in the Special Court setup by the State Government to handle cases of violation of the Order.

The commissioner, while appreciating many of the operators who have been obeying the Restriction Order since it was emplaced, cautioned those who have deliberately been violating the Order and/or use the mini buses and tricycles to perpetrate crimes during the restriction time, to turn a new leaf.

He warned that the Police will henceforth deal decisively with violators of the Order, including unrepentant criminals among them.

The CP appreciated the law-abiding citizens of the State who have shown understanding and compliance with the Restriction Order and tasked them to remain steadfast, vigilant and promptly report violators of the Order and acts of crime and criminalities to nearest Police Station.
