Updated: Okopoly inaugurates new SUG executives

A new executive to pilot the affairs of the Students Union Government (SUG), Federal Polytechnic, Oko, Anambra for the 2022/2023 academic session has been inaugurated at the institution’s campus in Oko, Orumba North Local Government Area of Anambra State.

The new executive headed by Comrade Nnadi Franklin Chigekwu as the president, was inaugurated before the Rector of the polytechnic, Dr. Eng Fransisca Unoma Nwafulugo, at the Mass Communication Complex on Thursday by Hon. Kemelayefa Omonibeke, acting Chairman, Governing Council of the polytechnic.

Speaking at the event, the rector , who was accompanied by other principal officers of the polytechnic, congratulated them for emerging victorious at the keenly contested polls.

While while commending the outgoing EXCO for conducting themselves peacefully while discharging their duties, Like Dr. Nwafulugo urged the new officials to consolidate on the successes recorded by their predecessors. 

According to her, the outgoing administration’s good performance was only possible because the president had the right friends and always sought wise counsel before taking any step.

She urged them to uphold the polytechnic’s name in all their dealings, charging them to be role models to other students and maximize their position for posterity sake.

Her words: “Out of the numerous students, God chose to bring you as the new elected SUG members. I appreciate both the executive, judiciary and legislative arm”

She therefore advised the new president, Comrade Franklin Chigekwu to always carry his excco members along so that his executive would be very strong as challenges will come, because “United, we stand, divided we fall”. 

She furthermore expressed her gratitude to the Students Independent Electoral Commission (SIEC) 2022/2023 for their massive support and work.

In his remarks, the acting Chairman of the governing board, Hon. Ominibeke commended the rector of the institution for providing a conducive environment for students to choose their representatives.

He admonished the students to remain of good behaviour and work together with their elected representatives and school management in order to take the institution higher.

He informed the students that he was once like them and had made himself relevant in the society. He then urged them to fully optimize the opportunity for tertiary education to distinguish themselves and become relevant in the society.

The newly SUG president, Comrade Nnadi, thanked the rector and the management of the institution for their support for tye student’s body.

Nnadi, a HND 1 student of Science and Laboratory Technology(SLT) Department, also thanked the SIEC members especially the SIEC Chairman, Comrade Silas Okorie for providing a level playing ground for the election which was held on the 22nd of April 2023 at the school premises.

He vowed to protect the interest of the students at all times, while seeking for the cooperation of all students in building a better union.

The Inaugurated SUG Executives include Vice president SUG, Agbazue Nzubechukwu, Secretary General of the SUG Nwosu Emmanuel, Assistance Secretary General, Comrade Duruiheoma Christian, Director of welfare, Comrade Prince Abani and others.
