Panic in Abia as Otti probes Ikpeazu, others

An air of apprehension might have gripped former political appointees of former Abia State Governor, Dr Okezie Ikpeazu and other office holders as Dr Alex Otti, is set to probe the finances and other activities of the Abia State Government.

To this end, Otti has approved the constitution of a five-man judicial panel of Inquiry on the recovery of government properties and funds belonging to Abia State government.

The judicial panel is headed by Justice Florence Ikwuoma Duroha-Igwe. Other members of the panel are Prof Ogwo Ekeoma Ogwo, Prof Ursula Ngozi akanwa, Mazi Ugo Okoroafor and Rev. Fr Alex Okonkwo.

According to the Secretary to Abia State Government, Prof Kenneth Kalu, the terms of reference and the date of inauguration of the panel would be communicated to the public on a later date.

It was gathered that the judicial panel has set tongues wagging in the South East State that prides itself as the God’s Own State following the move by the newly elected governor under the platform of Labour Party (LP) to beam searchlight into the finances of the state.

Close watchers of the politics of Abia State said the people and resident of the state were disappointed at the way and manner the state has been governed since the return of democratic rule in 1999.

Abia state has been governed by the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP). However, LP in the 2023 general elections swept the PDP out of power in the state.

According to some of the residents of Abia State, “it is still too early to form an opinion on the proposed judicial panel of inquiry until the terms of reference of the panel is made public”
