- LP members emerge House majority leader, Chief Whip
The Enugu House of Assembly on Tuesday approved the request of Gov. Peter Mbah to appoint 50 Special Advisers (SAs) to assist in driving the administration of the state.
The approval of the governor’s request followed a motion moved by the minority leader of the Assembly, Mr. Iloabuchi Aniagu, during plenary of the Assembly, presided over by the Speaker, Uche Ugwu.
The governor, had in a letter, requested for the assembly’s approval for the appointment of the SAs and the letter was read during plenary of the assembly, by the speaker.
Mbah said that the request was pursuant to Section 196, sub section 1-3 of the Constitution of Federal Republic of Nigeria, as amended.
The governor who, said he would appreciate the House for early consideration of the request, explained that the Special Advisers would assist in driving the administration’s agenda to achieve exponential growth of the state’s economy.
Mbah also requested that the remuneration and allowances of the special advisers be as prescribed by law or by the resolution of the House.
The approval will bring to 77 the number of of aides so far appointed by Governor Mbah since May 29.
It would be recalled that the governor had before now made about 27 other political appointments, including that of Mr. Ladi Akeredolu-Ale, who was appointed as the Managing Director of Enugu State Broadcasting Service (ESBS).
Meanwhile, two lawmakers elected on the platform of the Labour Party (LP) in the Enugu State House of Assembly have emerged as the Majority Leader and the Chief Whip of the 8th Assembly.
They are Johnson Samuel representing Enugu North State Constituency as the majority leader and Eze Ejike Jude representing Igboeze North 1 Constituency as the Chief Whip.
The speaker of the assembly, Hon. Uche Ugwu, who made the announcement of the principal officers at the floor of the assembly, Tuesday, in the hallowed Chambers of the Enugu, also announced Jude Udefuna, member representing Ezeagu Constituency as Deputy majority leader and Princess Obiajulu Ugwu member representing Enugu South rural Constituency as the Deputy Chief Whip.
He further announced Iloabuchi Aniagu member representing Nkanu west Constituency as the Minority leader (PDP) while Jane Chinwendu Eneh member representing Awgu North Constituency as the Deputy Minority Leader.
Chukwuma Ekwueme member representing Uzouwani was named the Minority Whip while Okey Mbah member representing Nkanu East was named Deputy Minority Whip.
