Four killed as two Enugu communities clash over land

The Enugu State Police Command has disclosed that four persons have been killed following the breakout of communal clash between Oyofo and Awha communities.

Both communities, which are located in Ezeagu Local Government Area of Enugu State, have been engaged in a long drawn land dispute.

Our correspondent gathered that the crisis broke out on Friday morning and as the news filtered into both neighbouring communities, youths were said to have mobilised themselves to the disputed area where, they descended on each other.

The clash, it was gathered, resulted in the instant killing of four persons from the two communities, while five motorcycles and a tricycle were set ablaze.

A statement by the spokesman of the Enugu State Police Command, Daniel Ndukwe(DSP), indicated that the state commissioner of police, Ahmed Ammani, has ordered the deployment of policemen to the affected communities.

The statement disclosed that 12 male suspects have been arrested in connection with the clash and murder of the victims.

It stated that further development would be communicated, after investigation into the matter.
