Enugu State government has restated its commitment to be fiscally responsible and dedicated to transparency and accountability, while following due process in the award of contracts and other critical matters in the state.
The government said this is contract to recent online reports that the administration of Governor Peter Ndubuisi Mbah had recently awarded road contracts without appropriation.
One of the online reports had claimed that the contracts, which are 81 in number, “may have also been awarded without any enabling instrument from the State House of Assembly”.
The report also accused the state house of assembly of keeping silent while the state funds were used without appropriation.
But, reacting to the reports in a chat with our correspondent on Sunday, the state commissioner for information, Aka Eze Aka said that the roads under reference were still undergoing due process and already included in the bill for supplementary budget that would be sent to the state house of assembly before the bid process and award commences.
He said: “The Enugu State Government leadership is fiscally responsible and is dedicated to transparency and accountability.
The road projects mentioned at a news interview by the Hon commissioner for Works and Infrastructure were informative and not an award announcement.
“It is to be understood that the road projects announced will go through due process and included in the supplementary budget before the bid process and award commences.
“His Excellency Dr. Peter Mbah mentioned these projects in his 100 days in office to inform the people of Enugu State that the process has started.
“Once these road projects are reflected in the supplementary budget and approved by the State House of Assembly, we will commence the due process.
“Only thereafter would the winning companies be presented and if it meets the threshold for value for money and other measurement indicators, then it would be approved by Exco. It is at that time that it will be awarded and announced”.
He urged the people of the state to ignore any propaganda by those who were only searching in vain for negative issues to talk about the Mbah administration in the state.
