A chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and member of the party’s board of trustees (BOT), Chief Ugochukwu Okeke, has commended major stakeholders in the party for taking a decision to forgo their personal interests to ensure that the party returns to power in the state’s 2025 governorship election.
Okeke, who disclosed the resolve of the stakeholders to newsmen in Enugu on Monday, noted that the PDP lost power in the state some eighteen years to the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA).
He said PDP in the state was putting its house in order to ensure that it bounces back as the party of the state and for victory in the next state governorship election next year.
Okeke, whose membership of PDP BoT was ratified recently at the 76th meeting of the Board, assured PDP faithful and Ndi Anambra, that the good old times would be back soon as PDP would reclaim Anambra state government House in 2025.
He said, “Anambra state is a major stronghold of PDP. The tactics of opposing parties had been to first instigate division within PDP and subsequently use PDP structure to defeat PDP in the election.
“But that is a thing of the past now. Our major stakeholders have basically agreed that there’s need to maintain peace within the party for successes to be recorded and we are working together in the overall interest of the party and Ndi Anambra.”
The PDP chieftain praised the national leadership of the party for its decision to introduce those he described as, new faces that are young and vibrant, to lead the party in Anambra state.
“The remodeling of PDP is on course and the narrative is changing. The determination of the new state chairman and his team to incubate a positive change, bringing something new to the electorate is glaring. The zeal is infectious and I can tell you that PDP is back to the frontline of Anambra politics.
“I believe that the new state chairman and his team will continue to enjoy the support of critical stakeholders as long as the current momentum is maintained.”
Insisting that PDP will find its way back to Anambra State Government House in 2025, Okeke said, “PDP has given Anambra state the best performances in this democratic dispensation. Most visible infrastructural developments and democratic dividends scattered across the state today can be traced to officials elected on the platform of PDP.
“The people of Anambra know and appreciate these efforts because they have experienced the other side and the difference is clear. The 18 years of APGA misrule in Anambra has opened the eyes of the people and that is why they have embraced the current reforms in PDP with the desire to usher the party back to power in 2025.”
