Honours as Nwokeji celebrates three years in office as FUTO SSANU chairman

It was pomp and celebration on Sunday March 10, when the executive of the Federal University of Technology Owerri (FUTO) branch of the Senior Staff Association of Nigerian Universities (SSANU) under the leadership of, Comrade Uchenna Nwokeji, marked three years in office.

Nwokeji, who led his executive members to a church service to thank God for His guidance and protection for his third anniversary in office, was also presented with an award of honor for his service to humanity.

Speaking during a get-together with the executive members in Owerri, the Imo State capital, he charged everyone to continue putting in their best in whatever office they occupy.

He proudly announced that the three years of his leadership have brought transformation and resulted in improved welfare of members of the Union in the university.

The chairman happily stated that his leadership has worked to the extent that the union members in the university now have faith in the union once again, especially with regular alerts hitting their bank accounts.

He noted that all his life, he had always put the interest of the others ahead of his personal interest and vowed to continue to pursue the welfare of the workers even after leaving office and outside the university.

Nwokeji used the opportunity to assure them that he and the national leadership of SSANU were in constant touch with the federal government to ensure that the arrears of four months salary owed University staff were paid.

He reminded the SSANU exco members of the importance of their last year in office and urged them not to relent but ensure they continue to fight for the welfare of all members and work for the growth of the university.

In their separate speeches, all the members of the FUTO SSANU executive hailed Comrade Nwokeji for his exemplary leadership style, which has ensured absence of acrimony and rancour.

According to the Vice chairman, Comrade Aku Eze Edward, who thanked the chairman for the good and exemplary leadership he has shown, members of congress only see the union’s struggle as successful when alerts enter their bank accounts.

The treasurer, Comrade Uche Duru thanked the chairman for his thoughtfulness in organizing the get together, saying it had afforded them the opportunity to commend themselves for a job well done in the past three years.

While the treasurer joined his voice with the chairman and charged the EXCO to continue living up to expectations, the public relations officer of the union, Comrade Kuanum Bernard called on the EXCO to remain united as that is the only sure way to successfully defeat oppressors of Nigerian workers.

The trustee, Comr. Assam Okpekor noted that ever since he started work, this present EXCO has been the most peaceful and that national has not come to settle conflict amongst EXCO members is a credit to the chairman and other EXCO members.

He wished the chairman can lead SSANU FUTO up to three terms in office.
