The vice chancellor of the Enugu State University of Science and Technology (ESUT), Prof. Aloysius-Michaels Okolie, has commissioned a 12 kva high-tech solar power systems donated to the university by the Nigeria Fellowship of Evangelical Students Alumni Fellowship (NIFESAF) of the institution.
Prof. Okolie, while commending the benefactors, described the gesture as the way to go.
He noted that most developmental strides in top institutions of the world come from Alumni.
He said, “We are happy that we have alumni that are doing well in all fields of human endeavours.
“They had initially done 10 KVA that got destroyed by fire. In spite of that setback, they still came back stronger, even improving on the initial voltage they brought from 10kva to 12kva.
“We’re very hopeful that we’re going to make optimal positive use of this facility.
“We are also expecting that this will encourage our workers to be more productive in their various departments so that the alumni of this university will always remember NIFESAF and tell their students to join NIFES that is generous, industrious and that will always reconnect with the university. That’s the critical point”.

The VC expressed optimism that the solar system would be an enduring project that would open new vistas of collaboration between the university and NIFESAF.
The global chairman of the ESUT NIFESAF, Engr. Fred Nnadike, who spoke on behalf of the fellowship, disclosed that the donation was made as part of their contribution to ensure regular power supply in Exams and Records unit of the institution.
According to him, “We found a need in our school. Students and graduates were finding it difficult to get their transcripts and certificates.
“So, we inquired about what the problem was and discovered that the university’s Exams and Records unit was having problem with power supply.
“We also saw for ourselves the condition under which they were working. It wasn’t an impressive one.
“So, we had to come together to provide them a power supply system through this solar plant.
“We were able to provide 12kva. The first one was 10kva but it didn’t quite go as we wanted. So, we had to do another one, which is 12kva and it’s working perfectly now”.
Nnadike, who stated that the entire project cost NIFESAF over N25 million to get it done both the first and the second one, expressed hope that the university would run more smoothly and achieve more and be more productive.
