Gunmen abduct another Catholic priest in Anambra

Some yet-to-be-identified gunmen have abducted the parish priest of St. Matthew’s Parish, Ajalli, Orumba North L.G.A. in Anambra State, Rev. Fr. Christian Ike.

This is exactly one month after another Catholic priest, Rev. Father Basil Chukwuemeka, was kidnapped by the same people at Nkpor Junction, near the commercial city Onitsha in Anambra State.

Fr. Ike was however kidnapped on Sunday, June 16 alongside Mr. Ogbonnia Aneke.

According to a letter addressed to all parishes in the Catholic Diocese of Ekwulobia by the diocesan chancellor, Rev. Fr. Lawrence Nwankwo, the priest was kidnapped was Sunday morning around 9.45 a.m as they were returning from Mass in an outstation of St. Matthew’s Parish, Ajalli, Orumba North L.G.A.

The letter read: “Dear Brothers and Sisters, CALL FOR PRAYERS. KIDNAP CASE, REV. FR. CHRISTIAN IKE

“Please pray for the release of Rev. Fr. Christian Ike and Mr. Ogbonnia Aneke, who were kidnapped this morning around 9.45 a.m as they were returning from Mass in an outstation of St. Matthew’s Parish, Ajalli, Orumba North L.G.A.

“We implore the maternal intercession of Our Mother of Perpetual Help for their release”.

The State Police Command spokesman, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, could not be reached for comments on the incident as of the time of going to press.
