A pro-Biafra group, the Biafra Provisional Government will on Sunday September 29, 2024, mark 58 years anniversary of the massacre of NdiIgbo all over then Northern Nigeria.
The group said it dedicates the day for the remembrance of the victims of that massacre.
In a statement issued in Owerri, the Imo State capital, the spokesman for Biafra Provisional Government, Prince Armstrong Orji, described the killings as rather senseless and murderous, which according to him, left dead all over Northern Nigeria to the tune of about 30,000 Igbo as reported by a British Newspaper.
Explaining further, Prince Armstrong stressed that it is important such event is remembered so that the younger generation does not forget.
“We will not forget it. Not even with the way Nigeria is metamorphosing, and not with the way there is increasing hatred for the Igbo in Nigeria for no reason.
“It is clear each day that passes that the life of average Igbo person in Nigeria is endangered. We at the Biafra Provisional Government will want the International Community to take account of this”, he said.
While calling for vigilance among his Igbo people, he reiterated that the Igbo cannot be fooled for the second time.
He pointed to the recent Inaugural lecture given by Prof. Ahmed Bako of Uthman Dan Fodio University, Sokoto, which has been condemned by many Igbo groups and individuals.
“Imagine what could have been the reaction of Nigerian government, and many Nigerians if an Igbo man had made such a public inciting, divisive, and ethnic profiling lecture”, he noted.
“It was such similar narratives that led to the September 29th 1966 pogrom.
“We are not remembering this event because we hate Nigerians; far from it. But, Ndi Igbo must adopt the law of self preservation”, he concluded.
