Enugu capital territory host community demands LG chairmanship position

The people of Ogui Nike in Enugu North Local Government of Enugu State have demanded that the next chairman of Enugu North local government area of Enugu State should come from the community.

The people contended that it is their turn to produce the chairman of Enugu North Local Government Council at the forthcoming local government elections slated for October 2024.

The community, which addressed newsmen, through its President General, Mr. Ifesinachi Alum, stated that there was a zoning arrangement which was to have their son clinch the PDP’s House of Assembly ticket at the 2023 elections, but that was thwarted due to ambition of Hon. Ibenaku Onoh who against the spirit of a rotation agreement clinched the House of Assembly ticket against the advice of his elder cousin, Dr. Joseph Onoh.

The President General noted that but for the insistence of Hon. Ibenaku Onoh, the position would have been zoned to Ogui Nike Community.

“But when he insisted and clinched the ticket of the PDP, they still voted for him with the anticipation that he will support Ogui Nike to clinch the Party’s ticket during the Local Government Council polls.

“Even after losing the 2023 House of Assembly general election, Ibenaku Onoh came with his people to thank the people of Ogui Nike and Umunevo Ogui Nike communities for their massive support. It is very surprising to now hear that he is gearing up to contest the forthcoming Local Government elections which ordinarily should be the turn of Ogui Nike.

“Therefore what we are begging His Excellency, Dr. Peter Ndubuisi Mba is to help stop this injustice being unleashed on the people of Ogui Nike,” Alum pleaded.

It will be recalled that Dr. Joseph Onoh, in his recent visit to the stakeholders of Ogui Nike and Umunevo Ogui Nike Communities argued that the 2024 Chairmanship of Enugu North Local Government Council should automatically be zoned to Ogui Nike.
