LP convention: Journalists barred from venue, as police arrest seven party members

There is commotion at the Grand Swiss Hotel Nnewi, Anambra state, venue of the Labour Party National Convention. 

No fewer than seven members of the party have been arrested for allegedly, trying to forment trouble. 

Also, journalists who stormed the venue to cover the event have been barred from the arena by the the crisis ridden party. 

When the state chairman, Hon Ugochukwu Umeh was contacted, he said the National Chairman would brief reporters after the event 

The  spokesman of the party, Obiorah Ifoh, who had the tags, was equally elusive.

The arrested members were said to be distributing inciting leaflets critical of the party leadership 

The Nation gathered they had been taken to the police headquarters in Awka for questioning.

The young men were accused of trying to cause confusion at  the ongoing convention.

Before now, the state chairman of the party, Ugochukwu Umeh, had told The Nation that some elements were being used to cause dis affection in the party 

The Labour Party had been in crisis, which warranted the shifting of the convention venue from Umuahia in Abia state to Nnewi, in Anambra state. 

Meanwhile, it was gathered that some big wigs of the party stayed away from the convention, which the state chairman did not answer.
